Kalihati Upazila with an area of 301.22 sq km is located 22 km northeast of Tangail city and 102 km northwest of the capital Dhaka. Bhunapur and Ghatail Upazila in the north of this upazila, Tangail Sadar and Basail Upazila in the south, Sakhipur Upazila in the east, Sirajganj Sadar and Belkuchi Upazila in the west. The importance of this upazila in the connectivity of the northern region of the country with the capital Dhaka is immense.
